If the sight of a lush, green nursery stirs something deep in your soul, if your heart flutters at the idea of being surrounded by plants and your mind escapes to a world where money and space are no limits, dreaming of turning your home into a living, breathing jungle—then you and I are kindred spirits. Like me, you might also live in an apartment where outdoor gardening is more a wish than a reality.
But here’s the good news—nature doesn’t have to stay outside. With the right choices, you can fill your home with beautiful, low-maintenance indoor plants that not only add aesthetic charm but also bring a sense of peace, grounding, and joy into your everyday life.
In this post, I’ve handpicked some of my favorite indoor plants—each one chosen not just for how it looks, but for the sense of connection and calm it offers, along with some simple tips on how to care for them so they thrive in your space too.
Snake Plant
Also called Mother-in-law's Tongue, the snake plant is a popular and low-maintenance houseplant. It can survive without water for a month or more and is easily propagated from cuttings.
Scientifically known as Dracaena trifasciata, it belongs to the Asparagaceae family and is also recognized as an air-purifying plant.
Peace Lily
The peace lily is a low-maintenance, easy-care plant that can brighten any dull space with its dark green leaves and white flowers. Common in both homes and offices, it’s known for its elegance and simplicity.
Despite the name, the peace lily isn’t a true lily, as it doesn't belong to the Liliaceae family. It also helps eliminate mold spores in the air, making it ideal for people sensitive to airborne allergens. It thrives in medium, indirect sunlight and dislikes cold temperatures. While it enjoys moisture and humidity, avoid frequent watering in winters.
Fiddle-Leaf Fig
Also known as Ficus lyrata, the fiddle-leaf fig is a flowering plant from the mulberry and fig family, Moraceae. It’s one of the most popular and trending houseplants online, loved for its large, striking leaves.
It can grow up to 6 feet or more, making it a stunning focal point in any living room. While it can be expensive, it’s widely valued for the aesthetic charm it adds to a space. The biggest mistake you can make is overwatering or using pots without drainage. Water it once a week or every 10 days for best results.
Lucky Bamboo
While many assume it belongs to the bamboo family, it actually falls under the Dracaena genus and is scientifically known as Dracaena sanderiana.
It thrives in indirect sunlight and can be grown entirely in water, making it a low-maintenance and elegant indoor plant.
Money Plant
Also known as Pothos, money plants are among the most common indoor plants in Indian households—at least from what I’ve seen around me in New Delhi. Because they were everywhere, I initially overlooked them.
But over time, I’ve come to love their simplicity and resilience. They’re extremely low-maintenance, can survive in both low and bright light, and go days without water. They can even be grown in just water.
Whenever I find a pretty bottle, I fill it with water, drop in a few money plant cuttings, and forget about them for a month—they thrive effortlessly.
